Why does QuickBooks Self-Employed say my email isn't set up for receipt forwarding, and how do I fix it?
"Your email isn’t set up for receipt forwarding"
"Your email isn’t set up for receipt forwarding"
This usually happens because QuickBooks Self-Employed only accepts receipts from one email address, and that address has to be the exact one you use to sign in. If you've recently changed your forwarding email, or switched to a custom address that ends in @qbodocs.com, that's the mix-up: the @qbodocs.com format is built for QuickBooks Online, not QuickBooks Self-Employed, so receipts sent that way land in Online instead of Self-Employed and your original sign-in email stops being recognized for forwarding.
How to fix it
Sending your receipts
Once your email is set up, attach your receipt images (JPEG, PNG, or PDF) to a new email and send them to receipts@quickbooks.com. QuickBooks scans them and adds the details automatically, so you don't have to enter each one by hand.
If you've already switched to a custom address
Since only one email address can be registered at a time, go back into Receipt forwarding and re-enter your original sign-in email as the forwarding address. Once it's verified again, forward new receipts to receipts@quickbooks.com and they'll start showing up in QuickBooks Self-Employed rather than QuickBooks Online.
Reviewing what comes through
If you have bank or credit card accounts connected, QuickBooks tries to match forwarded receipts to downloaded transactions automatically. If it can't find a match, it creates a new transaction for you. Head to the Transactions menu to find and categorize anything that came in, and keep an eye out for a "Needs action" message if a receipt didn't get matched.
