How to apply a payment that was recorded as bad debt

Thanks for reaching out about your customer payments, QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you keep track of invoices,  credits and payments so you know the amount due by your customers. I can point you in the right direction for assistance in entering this payment for an invoice which you've already considered bad debt.

To know how you should be entering this payment for an invoice you've already moved to bad debt, I recommend reaching out to your accountant. They'll be able to assist in making sure the payment affects the right account for your books to be well balanced. You can invite your accountant to your QuickBooks Online account by clicking on the My Accountant tab. There's also an option to find an accountant near you in that section by clicking on the Find a Pro to help button.
