Hi there greg-gmcfconstru and welcome to the QuickBooks Community!

Using automation in QuickBooks can make data entry so much easier. QuickBooks Online gives you the option to modify your invoice number sequence to better suit the needs of your business. I can assist you with the automatic generation of invoice and estimate numbers.

The transaction numbers in QuickBooks Online are automatically generated based on the last transaction of that type created. The system will make sure that the next transaction's number is one above the last sales form you made in the system. If you turned on the option to have custom transaction and now want to deactivate this feature, you can do so by navigating to the Gear Icon in the upper right corner, then selecting Account and settings. After choosing the Sales menu in the left column, you'll see a Pencil Icon to the right of the Sales form content subtitle. You can then toggle the option for Custom transaction numbers to Off and Save. You can learn some more about customizing your sales form numbers in this article about How to change the invoice number on sales forms.
