You can make a sales tax adjustment in QuickBooks Online. To decrease your sales tax due, you must first set up an income account. Otherwise, set up an expense account.

Once done, add the adjustment by following the steps below:

  1. Go to All apps, select Sales Tax, and then Overview.

  2. Find the tax period to adjust and select Prepare return.

  3. Choose Adjust.

  4. Set the Adjustment date and Tax rate.

  5. Select the Adjustment account.

  6. Choose an expense account to increase the tax due, or an income account to decrease it.

  7. Enter the Adjustment amount.

  8. Add notes in Memo.

  9. Hit Save.
