How can I enable tax rates for invoices and bills in QuickBooks? Currently, the tax rate option is not appearing when I create invoices or enter bills?

Once you enable the tax feature, the Tax or VAT column automatically appears on both invoices and bills. If you have already enabled this feature but the column is still not showing, check the Amounts are dropdown field at the top of the invoice or bill screen. Ensure you select either Inclusive of Tax or Exclusive of Tax, as choosing an active tax method forces the column to display.

For bills, you may also need to check the grid layout if the column remains hidden. Just click the small Gear icon located directly above the line item table on the right side of the screen. Then, ensure the Tax checkbox is selected in the settings. Also, if the column is visible but specific tax rates are missing, ensure those rates are active by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Tax overview page and use the side arrows to find the tax agency.
  2. Choose Edit in the top right corner, then hit Edit rates.
  3. Click the small Gear icon right above the rows and check the Include inactive box.
  4. Select Make active next to the necessary tax rates.
