The option to connect your QuickBooks Sole Trader Plus account to HMRC for MTD for IT is through the Income Tax feature and not in Account and settings. However, please note that the Income Tax feature will only be unlocked once you verify your Business type in the Company section within Account and settings.

Once verified, access the Income Tax feature and authorise QuickBooks to share your records with HMRC by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to All apps from the left-hand menu and select Income Tax, then click Overview.
  2. If this is your first time, you will see a welcome screen. Select View Income Tax Estimate or Join MTD for Income Tax.
  3. Click the Authorise option to connect to HMRC. This will redirect you to the HMRC website.
  4. Enter your Government Gateway user ID and password.
  5. HMRC will present a list of permissions (e.g., "View your tax records" and "Submit your updates"). Select Grant Authority.
  6. Once successful, you will be redirected back to QuickBooks, where you will be asked to enter your National Insurance number.

For further details on selecting your income source and verifying your obligations, refer to Steps 3 and 4 in this article: Set up Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in QuickBooks.
