Question

I am trying to have my taxes paid automatically, however it requires me to put in my Minnesota UI number. I am not required to pay UI taxes, how do I proceed without that

I don't have a UI number and don't need one for my business as I am the only employee.

We can navigate to the Payroll Settings to make your business tax-exempt for Minnesota UI taxes, Jenny.

First, we need to make your business as tax-exempt for SUI:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Payroll Settings.
  2. From your (State) tax, select the Pencil icon to edit.
  3. On the UI account number, you can leave the field blank.
  4. Then the Unemployment Insurance (UI) rate is: 0.00% or 0.1%
  5. If applicable, select any tagalong or surcharge rates: 0.00%
  6. Click OK, and then select Done.

Once done, you can make yourself tax-exempt from SUI, please follow Step 2 (Set up SUI) in this article: Set up federal and state unemployment insurance for churches and non-profits.

Also, you can check this article if you need to make changes on your employee info: Edit or change employee info in payroll.
