Question

I subscribe to QuickBooks Self-Employed Tax Bundle, so how do I start doing my taxes with Turbotax without being charged more? Turbotax is saying I have to pay. Why?

I pay $35 a month for the Tax Bundle, and I understand that means I should be able to prepare my taxes using Turbotax online with no additional cost. Yet when I start Turbotax using the same login as for my QB S-E Tax Bundle, I'm asked questions about what my situation is and then it tells me that I can only choose between a couple expert-assist options that will cost more money (several hundred dollars). Why?

Hi there, Achi. You’ll need to initiate the tax filing within the QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) portal, not by going directly to the TurboTax website. Going directly to TurboTax often defaults to paid Live or assisted products rather than the QBSE version included in your bundle.

Before sending the data to TurboTax, review your tax checklist carefully. Once done, follow the steps below to send your data to TurboTax:

  1. Select Download reports and save them to your computer.
  2. Click Send to TurboTax.
  3. Use the same email address that you use for TurboTax Self-Employed.
  4. Select Send to TurboTax.

Tonight, I was told that "this is a common problem stemming from recent TurboTax updates, and both our QuickBooks and TurboTax teams are actively working on a solution" and that the only solution is to pay TurboTax, ask QuickBooks for a refund, and then wait 3-4 weeks to see if you get your money back.

Same issue here. Apparently TurboTax did some sort of update just before we filed taxes renaming the bundle. Even though I went through the proper steps to file, during the process something changed from my included bundle to charging me to file. I could also not get a code because this was a known issue and they said they had too many people that needed a code. They required us to pay to file and that we would get a refund in 4 to 6 weeks. That still has not happened and every time I call QuickBooks or TurboTax to talk about my refund they think I'm talking about my tax return refund 🤦‍

Terrible service for a monthly subscription bundle we pay for and they are double charging us with no apparent customer service to help.
