Sales Tax not checked for product where sales tax is set to yes

We use inventory, our inventory items have sales tax set.

When we receive an inventory item, Enter the item under product/service on the credit card transaction select billable and enter the customers name the sales tax check box is not automatically checking like it was previously.

Add the same item to the customer invoice the taxable check box is still not checked. 

I now have to manually check Tax and Taxable on all documents this worked correctly previously no settings regarding sales tax have changed
