The option to set up a Tax profile in QuickBooks Sole-trader is currently not available, @immaculate.enquiry.

This feature is accessible in QuickBooks Online (QBO)or QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You can find the Tax profile under the Taxes section on the QBO dashboard.

If you want to subscribe to QBO, please visit our QuickBooks Plans and Pricing page to proceed.

I'm always ready to help if you have any other concerns about managing your QuickBooks account. Just leave a reply below and I'll get back to lend you a hand.

Hi.

There is no option for sole trader to set up simplified expenses. All that there is under tax is milage

September 28, 2025

QuickBooks sole trader includes a simplified expenses option for mileage, applicable to categories such as Personal and Business mileage,

immaculate.enquiry.

Simplified expenses will calculate your business expenses using flat rates instead of determining the actual costs.

You can use simplified expenses to claim flat rates for business mileageworking from home, and living at your business premises if you keep track of the following:

  • Business miles driven using your own vehicle
  • Hours worked from home each month
  • Number of people living at your business premises (if applicable)

You can manually record this as an expense when adding a trip under a specific expense category in the Business purpose field. For more details, visit HMRC: Simplified expenses.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks account.
  2. Go to Mileage, click Add trip.
  3. Enter the necessary details.
  4. In the Business purpose field, create a preferred name for your expenses.
  5. Click Save when done.

Please know there is a scheduled maintenance, and you're unable to access the HMRC online service from 5 pm on Friday, 26 September 2025, to 9 am on Monday, 29 September 2025. All online services will be unavailable during this time.

If you have other concerns, let us know.
