Hello! I have a simple question. In regards to Fiscal Year End, where do bills go? Are they filed under the date they were created or paid? If a bill was created in 2019, but paid in 2020? Which year does it fall under?   Thanks!

I’d be glad to explain a few things for you, @OnlineNewbie.

You bills are tracked based on your company’s accounting method. There are two accounting methods in QuickBooks. Let me provide and discuss them to you.

The accrual basis of accounting means that your transactions are filed based on the date they were entered in QuickBooks.

While the cash basis of accounting means that your transactions are filed based on when you received the payment or when you paid your bills.

You can check the accounting method by following the steps below:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Accounts and Settings.
  3. Select the Advanced tab on the left panel.
  4. In the Accounting section, choose the Accounting Method from the drop-down.
