T619 error when submitting the XML file to the CRA - Why?

We are getting an error when submitting our XML file to the CRA. Specifically:
Error: we are unable to process your submission because the T619 electronic transmittal record contains either empty tags or missing mandatory tags.

We use quickbooks to make our lives a little easier, not have to decipher an XML file. Shouldn't the file generated by quickbooks be straight forward and ready for submission?

Thanks for any help.

Hello, @rclbr51. I can certainly see how this is an unexpected step in your filing process, and I’m here to help.

When filing your T4, make sure your Representative ID (RepID) in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is different from your Business Number (BN). If they match, update the RepID. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Payroll Settings.
  2. Select Federal Taxes.
  3. Locate the Rep ID (RAC) field and enter your 7-character alphanumeric CRA Representative ID.
  4. Save the changes and regenerate the XML file for submission.

Next, verify that the Business Number in your XML matches the account number you use to log in to the CRA website.

Here's how:

  1. Open the XML file in Notepad.
  2. Look for the section labeled </TransmitterAccountNumber>.
  3. Below this, locate the <bn15> tag and confirm the Business Number (<bn15>) matches your CRA login account number.

With these adjustments, your submission should process successfully.
