This usually comes down to timing, not a bug. It's a fair thing to be puzzled by, especially since it's happening across every company file and browser you've tried, which rules out an obvious culprit like a bad cache or a one-off setup mistake.
A bank rule can recognize a transaction, matching it to a category, the moment it downloads. But the actual auto-add step only runs at specific moments: when you sign in, upload a file, or create or modify a rule. That trigger-based design, not a glitch tied to one file or browser, is almost always what's behind this.
Confirm auto-add is actually turned on
A transaction that's matched to a rule but not yet auto-added will show a RULE badge in the Match/Category column. If you're only ever seeing that badge and never seeing the transaction move on its own, first confirm the rule itself has auto-add turned on:
- Go to Accounting, then Rules.
- Select Edit on the rule.
- Confirm Auto-add is turned on under "Automatically confirm transactions this rule applies to."
- Select Save.
Still tagged but not added?
If auto-add is already on and transactions are still sitting there with just a RULE badge, you're likely waiting on a trigger. Signing out and back in, or uploading a bank file manually, will prompt QuickBooks to run auto-add rules against anything pending.
