why is QBO not generating a journal reference or number

In QuickBooks Online, the reference number for a new journal entry transaction will automatically follow the sequence of the last entry made, @Sharon45.

I suggest reviewing the Audit log. It's important to confirm whether another user has altered the sequence.

1. Go to Settings ⚙.
2. Select Audit log.
3. Utilize the fields on the page to select the suitable User, Date, or Events filter to refine the results.
