Clicking on Incorporate Accountant's Changes Does Nothing

I'm importing an accountants change file and I get all the way to the review changes window, click on Incorporate Accountant's Changes and literally nothing happens, no errors, no new windows open, nothing, QB acts like I haven't clicked on anything. Need some suggestions please.

Thanks for the details, Carter_J.

You can isolate why your QuickBooks Desktop program is unresponsive by running the verify and rebuild steps.

I'm here to guide you how to perform this task:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Under Utilities, select Verify Data.

If you see a specific error message, you can look for the steps to resolve it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site.

If these steps didn't  work, import the accountant's copy on a test file. It helps identify if the problem is caused by a damaged QuickBooks installer or possible data integrity issues. I've added this link as your reference for the detailed steps: Try using Accountant's Copy in a Test File.

I've also added these links as your guide in converting the accountant's working file to a regular company file: Convert accountant's copy to a regular working file.

You can always find me in the Community whenever you have questions about converting the file.

I don't think issue related to system unresponsive as other buttons seemed to function properly.  When we click on the Incorporate Accountant Changes button, there's a small time/clock face icon that appears but disappears fairly quickly as if QB was working on incorporating the changes but nothing happens.  No error msg pops up.  We've tried through the ACFTS and email attachment with same results.

We are experiencing same issue.  Did you find a fix?

I think this features cleverly uses browser windows instead of standard application windows (which would work without issue).

If so, it's probably another issue related to the embedded browser Intuit recently wrote and included in QuickBooks updates - to replace Internet Explorer at the last possible moment, even though MS announced its end of support date over a year ago.

It seems to be very error prone and causes crashes as well as the symptoms you describe where buttons don't do anything and/or expected windows don't appear.

Having the exact same issue.  I was forced to update the software just two days ago, and since then we have been unable to "incorporate accountant changes" either from the web or from a file.  QB customer service tells me today that Intuit has recently opened an investigation on this matter.  Sure hope they solve it quickly as our accountant copies are backing up!

We didn't have any issues with the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button at the end of May-2022 when we were still on the R4 update.  We updated to R5 in June and now the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button is not working.  You click the button and nothing happens.  I've gone through the "verify data" step (File/Utilities/Verify Data) and receive the "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data".  I've rolled back to a prior company file and have had our accountant send another file and that doesn't help the issue.  We still have the issue of the "Incorporate Accountant's Changes" button not working.  You can see it be "pushed" with your mouse click and you get the little blue circle like it's thinking for a second... and then nothing.

As a CPA trying to get the changes into clients computers I don't know if I feel comfortable adding a user to their computer?? Seems like QB should have had a fix by now!

July 15, 2022

After hours online with Quickbooks support, they decided this is a bug.  The workaround is to have your accountant send a .QBW file instead of a .QBY file.  I hope this works.

That's not a reasonable workaround unless you are OK with losing everything you've done in QuickBooks since you sent the accountant the file.

I am having the same issue as well. I'm not willing to create windows user profiles on client's computers to "fix" this issue. If anyone has other options, or if Intuit has repaired, please post. I have already had an hour long conversation with QB technical support and they didn't seem to have any knowledge of widespread issue.

July 25, 2022

Same issue here and QuickBooks seems to be of no help whatsoever.  Between the horrible service, all the glitches, and the upcoming price increase, it seems QuickBooks will soon become a thing of the past.  I know that I am no longer so quick to recommend it anymore!

Hi there, rwill39.

I know how crucial to get the accountant’s corrections incorporated into your company file. To ensure that this will be taken care of I'd recommend contacting our technical supports again. I understand that you already did this, but I'd still encourage giving us another chance to help you out.

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.

  4. Click Contact Us, then enter a brief description of your issue.
  5. Select Let's talk, then choose a way to connect.

Additionally, here's an article that you can read to help rectify common issues when importing and exporting accountant's changes:

Seriously...this needs an update to fix it.  I've tried all the suggestions and nothing has worked.  This is an important issue and it sure seems like Quickbooks is taking their sweet time to resolve it!

Having the same issue as well. Tried all the "fixes" in this thread and nothing works.

Couldn't wait for customer support yesterday, so I asked my accountant to send me a company file. I couldn't even get that to open because QB said it had been opened in a newer version, which it hadn't. (This has actually happened before when a computer went down and I was forced to buy the newest version of QB when I really didn't need it.)

What worked... I tried all the fixes in this thread again and adding a new administrative user profile allowed me to incorporate the changes. From the new profile I opened the most recent backup and was able to incorporate changes. I saved a new backup, switched back to my profile, opened the new backup and accountant changes had held. I'm glad the fix worked, but it'd be nice if QB just worked properly.

My client is having the same issue importing the changes I sent him for Desktop 2022.  We were on the phone with support for 45 minutes before finding out that QB is having issues with importing the accountant's copy changes in the 2022 version and that there is not a fix at this time.

August 4, 2022

I'm an end user having the exact same issue running QB Desktop Pro 2020 on a Windows 10 laptop (all with the most recent updates).  Unable to Incorporate Accountants Changes from the web due to "grayed out" non-functional button.  This is clearly a BUG on Intuits end, as the problem didn't occur until the latest update.

August 4, 2022

Here is an update to my situation: The problem still isn't fixed but yesterday I called Intuit support and they had me install QB2022 on my laptop that had no previous version of Quickbooks installed. I downloaded by company file to a flash drive and transferred a copy to the laptop. From there I was able to incorporate accountant's changes into the company file, I then downloaded the company file on the laptop to the flash drive and transferred it back to the desktop PC where I normally to my work and imported the QB file from the laptop. This is a temporary fix until I need to share the file with my accountant again. Then I presume I will have the same issue again.

August 5, 2022

Has anybody found a solution that actually works? When I call support they give me the same options here and none of them work🤦🏼‍♀️

August 6, 2022

The suggestion of creating an admin user in Windows worked for me (see BYAO's post). You have to save a backup copy using your normal Windows user id and then import that backup copy to Quickbooks after signing in to the new admin user id. You should be able to incorporate the changes and then save that backup file. Go back to your normal Windows user id, open QuickBooks, click on open or Restore a Company, click Restore a backup copy, and select the backup file you created with the imported changes. A lot of work, but it finally allowed me to import changes I had been waiting months for!! I agree that it sucks to have to do this workaround, but I couldn't wait any longer for QuickBooks to fix this bug. I continue to use their instructions to report the bug daily in the hopes that they will eventually fix it.

Just called help line again. Jamal said that there is an ongoing investigation into the issue, but there is no indication of when the problem might be solved. Keep calling. And, Intuit people, we would all appreciate any help you can give in getting this resolved. The "create a new user" is not a solution!
