About a year ago, our QuickBooks Online account randomly started saying we had a filing deadline for Maryland workers comp, but we are a small Idaho company who has only ever employed a handful of employees at a time to work at our one location in Idaho. We've never provided services in Maryland, nor have we had employees living or working there. Unfortunately, I've followed all of the tips I could find online and by using the AI chat bot in QuickBooks Online but there is no physical way for me to remove the Maryland workers comp on my end. I've gone through all past and current employees (inactive and active) and have reviewed everything from their work location to their home address and payroll withholding codes and there is no mention of Maryland. I guess my question is: Has anyone else had this issue? Were you able to get it resolved? I'm nervous that QBO is pushing us toward more and more automated payroll processing but I have this error in my file that their representatives

Trying to enter my sales tax in QB.  Clicked Manage Sales Tax, Pay Sales Tax, entered my discount and proper acct for it.  Click the appropriate tax I'm paying, then the line that I will enter the discounted amt.  Then this window pops up but I'm not trying to do a negative amt.  The total will be a positive amt.  I've updated payroll and closed and reopened.  Is there a glitch somewhere?  This is the way I've done it for the last 15 yrs. 

I enabled Sales Tax just to play with it, and now I can't get it turned off. Quickbooks also went and added tax to all open invoices. This is insanely annoying. I've already deactivated the agency, but it continues to apply location-based tax on basically everything. I guess I can go in and mark all my products & services as non-taxable or fix every invoice, but this is insanely annoying to have to go fix this.Is there a simple way to just completely disable sales tax being added to *every* invoice imported from my job software?

There was supposedly an ongoing investigation about my issue but I received an email from QBO saying, "We reviewed your case (15155410883), and found that QuickBooks Online is working as designed." That is not correct. I spent several hours on the phone with 3 different experts that could not help me. Here is the issue: See the attached photo. When I go to my Sales Tax Overview, no information generates. When I select 'Sales Tax Returns', I get an error saying "Something isn't working" and my two active agencies are not appearing in the drop down menu. There is also an error saying "Filing frequency needed for some tax agencies. To view your sales tax info, finish setting up your agencies." When I go to my Sales Tax Settings, there are 320 unrelated tax agencies that have appeared out of nowhere. 33 pages of agencies that I did not add. I made them all "inactive" but am still getting the error that the filing frequency needs to be added for these 320 agencies that I do not us

Quickbooks showed that I owed $268 for 1st quarter estimated taxes. Right after I printed out the 1040-ES, the amounts showing what I owe changed for each quarter to figures that were completely different. It is now showing that I paid $107 for 1st quarter which is completely inaccurate. I have strong doubts about whether the amounts shown that I owe for the remaining quarters are correct. This has never happened in the past 4 years that I've been using Quickbooks. I tried to rectify the issue through a chat with tech support, but they didn't seem too knowledgeable. Does anyone know what's going on?

I have QuickBooks Self-Employed Tax Bundle. Last weekend, I started my taxes through QuickBooks by sending the info to TurboTax. I went through the entire process, and then TurboTax wanted to charge me $203. I called QuickBooks before paying it and was told I have to pay for TurboTax and then request a refund. The representative ("Clyde") sent me an email with the case number (15157206984) and told me to reply to the email with my order number to request a refund. I did that and got a reply that stated "Thank you for your email. We would love to help you with your question but are unable to find an existing open case for your request." So I went through the online process to request a refund, and it was denied. I have now spent more time and energy on this fee than I did on my actual taxes, which is ridiculous. Please tell me how to resolve this. 

Since the option to make new posts on their announcement page has been removed, I'm creating my thread here. I am a professional who is outraged at the announcement by Intuit of making it mandatory for online payroll taxes and forms to all be paid and filed by QB. The funds will be immediately withdrawn with each payroll and held by QB until time to send to the appropriate taxing authority.  I noted Intuit had to change there terms agreement to allow for this to prevent legal issues which indicates it is illegal otherwise. I obviously am advising all my clients to move to a different payroll provider in light of this issue. My question to the community, especially those who are professionals with multiple clients currently using QBO payroll, is what payroll provider are you recommending to your clients? My clients are asking for my recommendations so we can start the move before we hit the July 1, 2026 deadline.

Just once, I’d love to sit in front of a client, open the Sales Tax Liability report in QBO, and not have to grab a calculator like it’s 1998.  You’ve got columns. You’ve got numbers. You don't have totals. Why? This is not some edge-case scenario—it’s the entire point of the report but instead when a client asks a natural question - what's my total sales tax for that period..  calculator, or export the STLR to Excel and start adding formulas or pull up an entirely different report and hope that has it (please, not the sales by product/service because THAT one has taxable amounts against non-taxable items - separate thread).Every time I export to Excel just to get the total, a little part of me dies. And somewhere in the cloud, a QBO dev whispers, “It’s working as intended.”Dear Intuit: please total the columns. For all of us. And maybe light a candle for Kenneth in the basement—he’s trying to resolve the recurring sales receipt not running debacle. Thanks.

I have a payroll tax payment missing from my check register.  The payment shows up in payroll tax history but not in the register.  I've checked all bank accounts and it is not showing up anywhere.

I received a notice from the IRS of interest and penalties due in the amount for HUNDREDS of dollars. As a small business owner who has taken the time to set up my account for automatic payment, this is not ok... The letter states that QBO paid my taxes in May and in July LATE and they have accessed interest and penalties on the late filing. My accountant said that he's had other issues with QBO automatic payments and filings through them andtypically do not recommend that process. Has anyone else experienced this?! Why are they holding the funds this late? Will QBO support this and pay the penalty!? HELP!

My efile 10 digit pin is usually populated when filing my quarterly 941 forms but this time, it is not populated and I don't remember what the pin number is.  Any idea why it is no longer populated and how can I find the pin?

 Hi folks, I'm helping a friend's e-commerce store with their bookkeeping. Ever since QBO forced the new connector early this year, it's been a nightmare. It’s either syncing ex-VAT (messing up UK taxes), dropping SKUs, or dumping Shopify Payments and PayPal into the same wrong account.I see reviews of people spending hours manually fixing line items. My question is: How are you currently handling this?Are you just paying for expensive apps like A2X/Synder now?Or did you hire a VA (Virtual Assistant) to manually fix the tax codes and bank mappings every week?Has anyone found a lightweight, cheaper workaround just to fix the payment mapping or VAT issue?

The last few years it just automatically covered the fees in turbotax when I went to file (I always go through my quickbooks first, and then it takes me to turbo tax to file). But this year the fees are not waived and turbo tax is asking me to pay in full for the federal & state filing. My subscription covers that fee - so why is it asking me to pay? I talked with Turbo tax on the phone and they were useless and told me to talk to Quickbooks - I've now called quickbooks 2 times and have sat on hold for 2 hours and then get disconnected. I need help!
